travel - paris recollections
fitful online wanderings
At A Poor Wayfaring Stranger photos of BP Oil's contribution to the Gulf of Mexico's environmental culture.
Tim Herrick's strange meanderings around Jersey City
Wood's Lot goes a-traveling.
Digby, at Hullabaloo wonders why folks get upset at Helen Thomas but not at the wing-nut xenophobic governor of Arizona.
Jim Gottstein continues to crusade against forced psychiatric confinement. More people should look into this effort, especially folks who don't have much to do with the industry known as "The Mental Health System"
"The Ahnold" thinks now is a good time to beg the federal government for money for high speed rail transport in California.
until next time th-th-that's All Folks!

artists - The Judgement of Paris
Monet in Babcock State Forest
I've been listening to a "books on tape" about mid-nineteenth century France. While it is in large measure about the struggles faced by the artists (such as Monet) known as the Impressionists, it is also a great sweeping history lesson about the time.
A 13 CD set entitled: The Judgment of Paris, by Ross King. It's available at Amazon.com for $28 [usd] but I got it for 3 bucks at an Ocean State Job Lot remainders bin.

getting started anew
It has been awhile since I posted anything at Short Notes.
I was, in part, frustrated with the appearance of the site - yet reluctant to mess with the format; in part, so many other things were going on I didn't know where to start making comment.
So I have come to a compromise with myself. I am saving the old posts at the original Short Notes site (together with the chaotic list of oddly categorized links) but shall resume posting here using this newly formatted template. To those who still look in on me, I hope you appreciate the cleaner appearance.
